Jamie Ann Huelin was born March 13th, 2001 in Burlington at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. She weighed 8lbs, 1oz.

Jamie is the only daughter between Loriann Keeping and Sheldon Huelin. Jamie had reached her milestones just like any other child, if not before some children. By the age of 6 months she could roll over, by the age of 10 months she began to walk.

She develops normally with only a lack of speech. But around her 3rd birthday she begins to have seizures. After many trips to the hospital we are told that she has childhood epilepsy and hopefully would grow out of it. Gradually she begins to lose her capability to talk, and then slowly she stops walking.

Around her 4th birthday she gets ill and has to be hospitalized for dehydration. After 3 days, Jamie didn’t fully recover and her pediatrician decided she needs to be sent to a children’s hospital for more testing. After being at McMaster Children’s Hospital for a week and series of testing that turned up negative, doctors decide to do a MRI. Through the MRI they notice that her brain wasn’t the size of a normal 4 year old, so they decide to do a skin biopsy. Through the skin biopsy, test results came back positive for Battens Disease.

Jamie is now 5 years old and can no longer talk, walk eat and is going blind. It is devastating to watch your little girl slowly slide away from you and not being able to do anything for her.

So when we heard about the procedure that is happening in China, we realized this was Jamie’s only hope. We decided to do everything in our power to get her there. With family and friends by our side we have decided to try and raise the funds to take her there for the only chance of a better that she has.
